March 2011 Newsletter


Welcome to the first Monthly newsletter from Garala Library Foundation, (www.garala.org) with a goal of establishing childrens libraries in India. From now on, we will be publishing news letters regularly every month to bring the updates to all of you.


* We got ourselves started in the month of December 2010, after receiving the 501(c)(3) Tax exempt approval, we started with our activities.
  • Website www.garala.org was published
  • Fund Raising, Books and laptop donations.
  • Opened an account in Technology Credit Union
  • Paypal account created under non-profit category.

* Founding Members - Following are the founding members of the organization
  • Siva Prasad - President
  • Prasad Chigurupati - Vice President
  • Deepa Sangam - Treasurer
  • Senthil Selvaraj - Secretary

Google Grants - Garala Foundation was selected to be participate in Google Grants program, where we can get free advertising up to a certain amount per day. Thank you Google.

* Matching Contributions - We were approved for matching contributions from the following companies
  • Salesforce.com
  • Juniper Networks
  • IBM - Work in progress
  • Your company - If your company matches the donations, please help us by routing your donations through your companies matching program.

* OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) - Attended a meeting in San Francisco as part of getting their laptops into our libraries. Was requested to refile the application with some more details, and we are working on that.

* Finance - It is tax time, and we are working on preparing the returns for Garala Foundation as well. Once available, we will post it up on our website. This should happen in next few weeks. Briefly, we have $2829.24 as of today in bank and paypal together, and all the expenses, including IRS & CA FTB application fees are pending to be paid.

* We received our first books donation from Vijaya Natanni of San Ramon and Radha Bala from San Jose. Thank you..

* We appreciate help in the following areas. If you know any one who can help us out, please let me know. Simple guidance is good enough to start with.
  • Volunteers who can lend their time at any capacity.
  • Starting a NGO in India, and FEMA/FERA regulation
  • A person who can help us with publishing newsletters. Approximately 2 to 3 hours in a month
